Tactical Air Command F-15D Eagle
The United States activated the Strategic Air Command in 1946 under the U.S. Army Air Forces, later becoming the U.S. Air Force.
Controlling the country’s entire nuclear arsenal, it cast a wide net. From intercontinental ballistic missiles, to the long range B-29 Bombers, SAC was instrumental in protecting the country amidst the Cold War.
The Tactical Air Command was formed simultaneously and was established as a balance between strategic air defense and post WWII tactical forces.
These pieces represent both the SAC B-52 G long range bomber, adorned with the SAC insignia, and the TAC insignia featured on the tails of the workhorse F-15 D Eagle Fighter.
Unlike my larger panels, these were scaled down for a more compact display. I made a number of these panels in various sizes and I must admit that I wished I had decals like the real planes as they were tedious to hand letter. A number of these pieces became features in a museum.
