Victory Theater Set

The Victory theatre set Facade

Built specifically for the Mid Atlantic AIR Museum’s WWII Weekend, this facade was the definition of a labor of love.  I have long been a member of a wonderful community of living history re-enactors who are involved with this show.

Known as the ” Victory Society,”  our amazing group utilizes  interactive experiences at venues throughout the yearly event, as well as many other living history events regionally. The V.S. began with a core group of women historians interested in teaching younger generations the sacrifices and challenges of what it was like living through the war years on the ” Homefront.”

To do so, they scoured the region for all types of furniture and wares that were period accurate.  With that at hand, the group proceeded to transform an ordinary aircraft hangar into a 1940’s home.  As the years drew larger crowds to the event, the expanded group of members wanted to create another venue. The Victory Theater was born from that desire. The theater allowed show patrons to view the “News from the Front,”  propaganda cartoons and film shorts all from the early 1940’s in an appropriate theater setting.

Built in panel form like most theatrical sets,  the facade had to be easy to assemble and disassemble for storage every year. We of course, chose an Art Deco style to represent the era and to add some visual interest.

It must be noted that without the kindness of my employers allowing me use of shop space, this project would have been much more difficult.

Chronicled below are a select few of the many production photos taken along the way.

I hope you enjoy watching this project come to life.

This project is dedicated to the tireless, passionate efforts and generous contributions of the entire Victory Society Family,  past, present and future and to those who kept the home fires burning.

On Site set up

The panels went up well on location at the hanger for the WWII Weekend event.

After months of hard work, I was excited to see my vision come to life . It was a hit for the group and show patrons alike!
